A female great white shark that had lived in the Monterey Bay Aquarium's Outer Bay exhibit since August was tagged and released today.
FenMaaDhiguRan (English translation - Water Flower Long Sun) - Announced on June 5th 2009 by the Maldivian Government is the largest Marine Protected Area (MPA) in the Maldives. It finds its home at the southern tip of the South Ari Atoll, Republic of Maldives, home to some of the most superb dive sites in the World and a globally significant whale shark aggregation. The area is forty two square kilometres of coral reef and turquoise waters bordered by idyllic palm fringed, white sand islands.
The Shark Trust marks European Shark Week 2009 by heralding a UK decision to lead in the battle against shark "finning" (slicing off a shark's fins and discarding the body at sea) with a complete ban on removal of shark fins at sea. The Shark Trust, a founding member of the Shark Alliance, has campaigned against finning and for this groundbreaking policy for years.
