September Trip to Baa Atoll

8th August 2009

The trip will commence on the 14th September. The team will again be joined by Dr Brent Stewart from Hubbs-SeaWorld Research Institute.

High on the list of priorities is the recovery of tags deployed in May 2009. If the tags remain attached to the sharks for much longer there is a risk of bio-fouling occuring. Bio-fouling may weight the tag enough for it to become negatively buoyant - meaning the tag would sink making the recovery of any data impossible.

The deployment of more tags, including some acoustic realtime tracking, is also being discussed with the Maldivian Government.
