The tag was attached to a shark new to the team, at the time, WS105. Upon initial analysis of the dive profile it would appear that the tag was removed from the shark rather than it releasing itself.
The dive profile recorded by the tag just before the point of release is so strange that the team fears that the shark was killed before the tag was removed.
